Zig Ziglar, (Hilary Hinton Ziglar), American motivational speaker (born Nov. 6, 1926, Coffee county, Ala. … Ziglar began working as a salesman in the mid-1940s and by the 1950s was giving sales-training talks; in about 1970 he launched his own company to offer training in sales, business, and personal development.
Education and early life
“Zig” Ziglar was born in the Coffee District in southeastern Alabama by John Silas Ziglar and Lila Wescott Ziglar.  He is the tenth of 12 children. 
In 1931, when Ziglar was five years old, his father took on a managerial position on a Mississippi farm and his family moved to Yazoo, Mississippi, where he spent most of his childhood. The following year, his father died of a stroke, and his sister died two days later.
From 1943 to 1945, he participated in the V-12 Naval College Training Program at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.
